Cheesy Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Buttery potatoes are mashed together with garlic and cheese, this sounds like heaven! And it is undeniably incredible. These potatoes are so easy that you’ll want to make them all the time. A great complement to any meal!

Potatoes were my favorite food all through childhood. I have been eating the ‘oh so common’ – ‘aloo ki sabzi’ since the time I could eat!! 😀 And I simply love it. This recipe is simple, but has a taste that will make you go… why the hell are these potatoes so good? I added some red chili powder on for looks – you can certainly stir more in or leave it out totally.

Sometimes it’s better to go back to the basics. While these Mashed Potatoes have a tasty, garlic-cheesy twist to them, they’re still one of the easiest (and most delicious) dishes you can make.

I have mashed the potatoes in a mixer grinder (you may use electric hand mixer/ or a masher). Using the mixer grinder makes it easier, faster, and makes a creamier texture. If you still get big pieces of potato, you can pass it through a sieve and get the creamiest of creamy mashed potatoes. It’s totally up to you.

These mashed potatoes are pretty versatile, so make sure to taste them once you have all of the ingredients in. You can add more garlic, salt, or cheese based on your own taste preference and serve them with anything or simply eat it by itself. For more such recipes click here.

Ingredients

3 medium sized potatoes

1 tbsp. butter

1 tbsp. grated cheese

4 cloves of garlic

1 tsp. salt

1/4th tsp. red chili powder

Method

Wash the potatoes under running water by rubbing it with your hands to remove any dirt. Puncture a few times with a fork/knife (this is very important, as it allows the steam to escape. Otherwise the potato may explode when you cook it). Place potato on microwave-safe dish and cook on high for 3 – 4 minutes. Turn over potatoes and cook for another 2 – 3 minutes. Remove and check if they are done (a fork should go through potatoes easily).

Peel the potatoes and cut them into pieces. While potatoes are still hot, add butter, cheese, peeled cloves of garlic and salt. Mash or beat potatoes (I used a regular mixer grinder to “mash” the potatoes. I find that it’s easier) until they are creamy in texture.

Empty it in a bowl, top with some melted butter, sprinkle red chili powder and serve!
